Are you a foreigner who is planning to work in the Philippines? Maybe it sounds strange that while we are dreaming to work abroad to make a living, other nationalities are aiming to be here in the Philippines to work on their respective fields.  In fact I’ve read a forum where a foreigner is asking anyone who had experience in getting a 9G Visa. Unfortunately, no one answered his question that lead me to do this article.

If you are a foreigner who plans to work in the Philippines, it is a requirement to provide working visas and permits. The working visa that you need here is the 9(g) Visa.

What is a 9(g) Visa?

A 9(g) Visa is working Visa issued to foreigners who plans to work in the Philippines. If you are to apply for a working Visa, the company that will employ you should provide a petition that will tell authorities how crucial you are to a company’s management, operation or administration.

What Do I need aside from the 9(g) Visa?

Before getting a 9(g) Visa you’ll need to secure first necessary working permits. If you have a 9(a) Visa or a Tourist Visa, you are allowed to work for less than 6 months knowing that the authorities have issued you a Special Work Permit. If you are planning to work for more than 6 months, then an Alien Employment Permit should be submitted to be able to get your 9(g) Visa.

You can request a Special Work Permit from the Bureau of Immigration while the Alien Employment Permit is issued by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Where do I apply for an Employment Visa?

For foreigners who are already in the Philippines, Employment Visas are applied and issued by the Bureau of Immigration.

For those outside the Philippines, may also try applying for an employment visa by submitting their requirements to the nearest Philippine Embassy.

What are the requirements of getting a 9(g) Visa?

To secure a 9(g) Visa, you need the following:

  1. Passport;
  2. A detailed resume’ where your educational background, work experience are indicated.
  3. Certificate of Employment, or any document that tells detailed info about the employee’s compensation, position in the company, etc.
  4. Machine-validated Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Certificate of Registration; Articles of Incorporation; and General Information Sheet (GIS) for the current year stamped received by the SEC;
  5. Photocopy of petitioner’s latest Income Tax Return (ITR) with the corresponding proof of payments;
  6. Applicant’s Tax Identification Number (TIN);
  7. Approved Alien Employment Permit(AEP);
  8. 2×2 photos;
  9. Letter request on company’s letterhead;
  10. For dependents, marriage contract, birth certificate or family registry duly authenticated by the Philippine Consulate Abroad that has jurisdiction over the place of marriage or birth.

What is the procedure of securing a 9G Visa?

  1. Apply for an AEP.
  2. Submit a petition telling how important your employee is to the business.
  3. During the approval process, employee may get a temporary Special Working Visa.
